BOYS LACROSSE RULES REVISIONS 2010 By Eric Evans, National Federation Rules Committee member and VLOA Rules Interpreter No major changes in the rules for this coming season; most of the changes were editorial and clarified existing rules. 1. While college stick head dimensions will change for 2010, there are NO changes in the dimensions for sticks for Federation play. Be forewarned that there now exist three categories for sticks on the market: 1. Sticks that only meet NCAA specs. 2. Sticks that meet both NCAA and NFHS specs. (a hybrid stick if you will). 3. Sticks that meet only NFHS specs. 2. Goalie now explicitly required on the field. Rule 2-1-1 defines a penalty (forfeit) if a team fails to have a properly equipped goalie or refuses to put one on the field. Rule 6-5-2t stipulates that it is illegal procedure if a team doesn’t have a properly equipped goalie on the field (example: during a ten-man ride, etc.) 3. Correction to page 25. 4-3-1-Exception #1 first sentence should begin: “In the event of an extra-man situation or a flag down situation creating an extra-man situation at the conclusion of any period…” 4. 4-6-3a: In the case of a loose ball declared out of bounds, restart location is where the ball broke the plane of the boundary line. 5. 4-9 Goal not counted. When the scorer’s crosse is found to be illegal or if the scorer adjusts the strings before the official requests it or adjusts the crosse in any way after the official asks for it. 6. 7-3 Resuming Play after a Penalty. If the ball has crossed the endline prior to the penalty occurring, the ball shall be restarted at that spot. In other words, in this case, the ball will NOT move to the alley for the restart. In Vermont, this will be forever known as the “Kiki White Rule” in that he proposed it, explained it, and the Rules Committee loved it. When you next see Kiki you can get the full rationale. Points of Emphasis page 80. 1. Teams must warm-up in their own designated ends of the field; no running a lap around the entire field. 2. No drills should occur directly behind the goal during a goalie warm-up nor should players feed from directly behind the goal during a goalie warm-up. 3. Stalling: still a point of emphasis as it was last year: teams need to attempt to attack the goal and score. 4. A metal/hollow handle must have a cap plug or be adequately taped. A single strip of tape is not considered adequate.
Old timer lax refs... what 93 years???
Here are two of the oldest active Lacrosse officials in the US. These two have a combined 93 years of officiating experience... have each officiated some 946 games... since the early 1960's. These guys are still field worthy to ref a game. This game photo is from 6-19-2009 Friday afternoon, Lebanon vs Hanover youth game. Now what's their secret....WELL it might be that when they w/a brother officinal, right after the game....they go and have a COLD BEER... or 2... |
